The History of Computer

Some says that Kung hindi ka marunong tumingin sa iyong pinaggalingan ay wala kang paroroonan. I believe that this saying is true so we, people study histories of different things. We study on how things started and were made. In our TLE class, I have learned about the history of computer.
First, people use their fingers to count. They also use other objects such as rocks or twigs to represent group of numbers. Then, Chinese people invented the abacus. An abacus uses beads to perform calculations. Next, Pascaline was invented by Blaise Pascal. It used hand-spun mechanical wheels to input numbers, then outputted them as answer. After a few years, Gottfried Leibniz created the Step Reckoner as an improvement on Blaise Pascal's  machine. Then, Difference Engine was discovered by Charles Babbage. It is a mechanical calculator that operated automatically. He also invented Analytical Engine that is designed for a mechanical general-purpose computer. It can store data in the memory and perform logical comparison. Next, Tabulating Machine was created by Herman Hollerith. This machine used punched cards to read data and store for the future use.

The first generation of computer uses vacuum tubes and magnetic drums for memory. It is big and clumsy. Its electricity consumption is high and electric failure occurred regularly that's why it is not very reliable. Large air conditioners was necessary because the computers generated heat.  It solves problems one at a time. Electrical Numerical Integrator And Calculator (ENIAC), Universal Automatic Computer (UNIVAC), Electronic Discrete Variable Automatic Computer (EDVAC), MARK I, and Automatic Sequence Controlled Calculator (ASCC) are examples of the first generation of computer.
The second generation of computer is smaller, faster, more reliable, uses binary tape and consumes less heat and energy. It uses transistors and magnetic core for memory. UNIVAC III is an example os the second generation of computer.
The third generation of computer used SILICON CHIPS called SEMI-CONDUCTORS. It also used keyboard, mouse, OS and applications. Its speed and efficiency increased and used low power consumption. Its example is International Business Machine Corp. (IBM).
The fourth generation uses microprocessors. It also uses Integrated circuits. It is smaller and faster. Portable computers were developed. Different types of secondary memory with high storage capacity and fast access were developed. Intel is an example of microprocessor and Graphical User Interface were added in the 1980s to add an easier environment for the user.

These technology was invented by the inventors to help us to do our tasks well. It is made to make our work easier. But, we should not overuse these technologies and we should not use it in bad purposes instead, use it in a proper way. We should not be over dependent on these technologies because it is not good for us.
